City interest in young Arsenal attacker - reports

The 22-year-old previously worked with City's sporting director Ben Knapper during his spell in North London, and [Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-norwich-city-line-up-deal-for-arsenals-nathan-butler-oyedeji/) is reporting that he is an option for the Canaries as they begin to step up their summer preparations.

Butler-Oyedeji is out of contract in the summer and is yet to put pen to paper on an extension, paving the way for City to try to tempt him to Carrow Road as part of Johannes Hoff Thorup's project.

The report adds that a host of other English and overseas clubs are also interested in Butler-Oyedeji, who has been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach, Eupen, Standard Liege and Zurich over the last 12 months.

The striker, who can also operate out wide, has been included in Mikel Arteta's Premier League and Champions League matchday squads in recent months owing to injury, making his debut for Arsenal against Dinamo Zagreb in January’s league phase clash.

He has also had two loan spells in the EFL with Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley - but made only five starts during his time with both clubs in the 2023/24 campaign. In 25 appearances, he failed to register a single goal contribution.

Butler-Oyedeji has flourished for the Gunners' U21 side this season, scoring nine and assisting six in just 12 Premier League Two matches. On Tuesday evening, he featured for Arsenal's youngsters in their 3-0 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road.

During that clash, he struck the bar and won the free kick that was fired into the net by Michal Rosiak in the 33rd minute.

Butler-Oyedeji has been at Arsenal throughout the entirety of his development, where he would have worked with Knapper as well as City's first-team coach Jack Wilshere.

"Of course with transfers, all of us know that it will probably be a busy summer again, both in and out," he said ahead of Saturday's victory over West Brom. "The best way to work is when there's alignment from top to bottom.

"When everyone knows which direction we have to go in and you have a clear strategy, you always take decisions based on that strategy. You don't have to see everything as an individual case."
