Manchester United strongest squad for Nottingham Forest named as Ruben Amorim gets triple boost

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim could welcome back five players against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United return to action on Tuesday evening with a trip to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The Reds headed into the international break fresh off qualifying for the Europa League quarter-finals before then picking up a 3-0 victory away at Leicester City.

It has been a mixed season for United and new head coach Ruben Amorim with their top-flight form inconsistent to say the least. The upcoming five games will arrive as a huge test for United as they play Manchester City and Newcastle United in the Premier League after their trip to the City Ground alongside a two-legged European tie against Lyon.

Some key players could miss all of those fixtures, including Amad and January signing Ayden Heaven, but Amorim will be getting a quadruple defensive boost against Forest with two key central defenders back. "[Harry] Maguire is ready to go to the game and [Leny] Yoro, yes," he admitted pre-Forest.

Patrick Dorgu served the final match of his three-game suspension before the two-week domestic pause and is, therefore, available once again. In between the sticks, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton could also be named in the matchday squad having both been spotted in United's latest training video.

With so many returns, Amorim is facing a number of big decisions, but some of those have already been made for him with Heaven ruled out, but expected back before the end of the season. Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo, meanwhile, are working towards returns - but neither have been deemed fit enough to feature against Forest.

"Luke is not ready yet. We are starting to do some drills with the team, but we are building Luke. "Kobbie is almost returning, but he is not ready for this game," Amorim said.

Academy striker Chido Obi is also expected to miss out after playing 120 minutes in United's FA Youth Cup defeat on penalties to Aston Villa. His absence could leave United light for options in attack, but Amorim is certainly well-stocked for options further back.

Strongest 20-man United squad:

Goalkeepers: Onana, Bayindir, Heaton

Defenders: Dalot, Dorgu, Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro, De Ligt, Lindelof, Amass

Midfielders: Fernandes, Ugarte, Mount, Collyer, Eriksen, Casemiro

Forwards: Garnacho, Zirkzee, Hojlund
