One of the biggest decisions that the Chicago Bears and newly hired head coach Ben Johnson will make before the start of the season is who to select in the 2025 NFL Draft with the No. 10 pick.
In a mock draft for CBS Sports, Nate Davis predicts that the Bears won't stay still, instead trading up with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the No. 5 pick to select Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.
"Jeanty could be the final piece to the offensive puzzle surrounding [Caleb] Williams – but wouldn't have to take on a massive load as a rookie given the presence of capable veteran D'Andre Swift, who could nicely shift into a third-down role," Davis wrote. "The move up would likely cost the Bears their No. 10 pick and one of their second-rounders, though GM Ryan Poles might also be able to get a Day 3 selection back from the Jags to balance the scales."
Jeanty is coming off an amazing season, finishing runner-up in Heisman Trophy voting and making All-America honors after rushing for 2,601 yards (second in CFB history) and 29 touchdowns on 374 attempts.
There's no doubt the Bears offense needs some more playmakers after finishing the 2024 season ranked 32nd in total yards per game (284.6) and tied for 28th in points per game (18.2).
Chicago's rushing attack was especially weak, averaging just 102 yards per game (ranked 25th) and 15 touchdowns (tied for 20th), which is something Jeanty could immediately come in and try to improve.
It also wouldn't be seen as much of a reach for the Bears, as Pro Football Focus ranks the Boise State products as the No. 5 prospect available in the draft.
