Manchester United are expected to move for another striker this summer, but Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres may not be the man for Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United have spent considerable money on new strikers in the last two summer transfer windows.
United splashed up to £72million on Rasmus Hojlund whilst Joshua Zirkzee cost United around £36million last summer.
The results have been mixed as Hojlund ended a goal drought at Leicester City before the international break, whilst Zirkzee is now playing in a deeper role.
That means United are likely to move for another striker this summer, and speculation is already ramping up ahead of the summer window.
United are being linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, whilst Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca is thought to be on United’s radar.

Nani on Viktor Gyokeres to Manchester United
One name that just won’t go away is Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sweden international became a goal machine under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, meaning fans have been dreaming of a reunion.
More United News
United were keen on Gyokeres heading into January, but there was to be no raid on Amorim’s former club.
Gyokeres continues to score goals in Portugal, and Nani – who did make the move from Sporting to United in 2007 – has now commented on the striker.
Speaking to Rio Ferdinand Presents, Nani suggested that he would love to see Gyokeres in the Premier League, and especially at United.
Nani suggested that Gyokeres is much more ready for Premier League action than he was a year ago, believing that he has developed his game.
The former United winger added that he would ‘love’ to see Gyokeres sign for United, praising his goalscoring ability as well as his creative side and his sheer power in attack.
“He is a player who can play in the Premier League – trust me,” said Nani.
“If he was playing the same today as one year ago, I would say no, because in the Premier League, the defenders will eat him, because he just wants to run with the ball.
“I would love to see him at Man Utd, because we need players! If he can go to Man Utd and do the same as he’s doing here, I will be very happy, because he scores so many goals, he scores every week.
“If he doesn’t score, he assists, he creates for the team. He’s very powerful, he’s a player who can run for 90 minutes at the same speed,” he added.
Gyokeres may end up facing United for years to come
We can imagine that Amorim would love to see Gyokeres join United, but that seems a little unlikely.
Reports earlier this year suggested that Ineos aren’t keen on signing Gyokeres, believing that he is already too old to be signed, as he turns 27 this summer.
The feeling may be mutual; rumours from the Portuguese media suggested that Gyokeres wasn’t all that interested in United and wants to join a top-four Premier League side.
Add in that Arsenal are now ramping up their interest in Gyokeres, and we would be stunned to see him joining United any time soon.
The real pain for Amorim would come in the form of facing Gyokeres for years to come in the Premier League.
Amorim at least knows Gyokeres as well as anybody and would hope to shut him down in any meetings with United, should he complete a Premier League move any time soon.
