There has been so much to unpack from Saturday’s memorable scenes in Newcastle.

It was a memorable day for the city, featuring incredible bus parade scenes, a Town Moor party celebrated by well over 100,000, an emotional Alan Shearer interview and a trophy lift on stage.

However, some brilliant interviews also took place, with iconic Geordie duo Ant and Dec chatting to Eddie Howe about our cup win, hopes for the future and the boss being awarded with the Freedom of the City honour.

Howe promises one thing

-----------------------

With the Carabao Cup triumph ending a 70 year trophy drought, Howe was asked by Ant and Dec about his optimism for the years ahead and made one thing very clear: he and his team would always fight for the fans and the badge above all else.

**Ant and Dec –** “As you said Eddie, it’s been 70 years since the last domestic trophy, it feels like this could be just the beginning, is that how it feels to you?”

**Eddie Howe** – “We hope so. I think it’s very difficult in football to make any promises, but the promise we can give is that we give absolutely everything, in every moment, in every game, to try and bring long term success to this football club.”

“It’s what the devotion and the passion and the support you give us, it’s the least we could do, and that’s what we try to do from this day forward.”

On Wembley memories and what it means to him

--------------------------------------------

Howe then recounted just how amazing the last fortnight has been for him and the club, stretching from the win at Wembley to the sensational scenes unfolding in Newcastle City Centre.

**Ant and Dec –** “Eddie, talk us through that moment when the full time whistle went at Wembley. How did you feel then, how have you felt all week, and how do you feel right now?”

**Eddie Howe –** “Yeah it was an amazing moment when that whistle went, it was a lot of time, obviously, since the club’s won any silverware, we were aware of the importance of that, we wanted to try and bring success and happiness to everybody here, but the scenes today have just taken our breath away.”

“A big thank you to everyone that’s come and supported us, the loyalty, passion, devotion you show us has been really appreciated, thank you.”

On receiving a unique honour

----------------------------

Having established himself as a top managerial name in England with his heroics guiding Bournemouth up the football league, Howe was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Bournemouth back in 2019.

And now having wrote himself into the history books of Newcastle United, he received a similar commendation.

**Ant and Dec** – “Eddie, since the win at Wembley, you yourself have been awarded the Freedom of the City of Newcastle, how did you hear about it, how did you feel? Thoroughly deserved it right?”

**Eddie Howe** – “Yeah I got a text message, and it was mind blowing, I didn’t expect it. It’s an incredible honour, one that I will take very gratefully, it means a lot to me and my family.”

“I think we’re gonna walk some sheep through the town moor soon, and black and white cows so I’m looking forward to that!”
