Jamie O’Hara destroyed by Liverpool supporter for ridiculing 'cringe' Newcastle United…

Jamie O’Hara was made to look foolish by a Liverpool supporter after he berated Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup celebrations.

Over 300,000 Toon supporters descended on the city at the weekend to welcome Eddie Howe’s Wembley heroes two weeks on from their famous win. Newcastle ended 70 years without domestic silverware and received an unrivalled reception on their return.

A trophy parade through the city centre was followed by an afterparty on the Town Moor - with celebrity Toon fans like Alan Shearer and Ant & Dec making an appearance. However, a section of rival fans have criticised the scenes that unfolded across Newcastle city centre.

One of those is former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who believes the Magpies were “cringe” with their celebrations. This provoked an angry first-time caller, Terry, who supports Liverpool, to fire back.

“O’Hara, you’re the one who has got me to ring in,” Terry said. “Honest to god, you’ve had a proper shocker here lad. You’ve got to remember, Newcastle have been so long without a trophy, you’ve got all of this built up frustration in regards to trying to win something.

“They’ve been through the (Mike) Ashley years when going to the game must have felt like a dredge. None of us as fans ever want that to be (the case). Relegation, they came back from that.

“They obviously got bought out by the Saudis, have gone on a cup run and played the team who are top of the league and were going quite well. They went on to win the final… why wouldn’t they celebrate it? They’re going to be made up, aren’t they?

O’Hara stood his ground - insisting the jubilant homecoming was “over the top”. He replied: “I’m not saying they can’t celebrate. Listen, great, fantastic… I wanted them to win. Brilliant, celebrate on the day, have your moment, but pulling Ant & Dec out? The whole Alan Shearer thing? Singing the songs up on the stage? The cup? Come on.

“I expect them to celebrate at Wembley, at St James’ Park at the next home game, have their moment which they it, it was brilliant, fair play. I get it but I thought it was over the top. You’re meant to be Newcastle with international stars in the team. I thought it was a bit cringe.

This caused the Liverpool fan to poke fun at O’Hara’s club, Spurs, who won the League Cup in 2008 - their last major honour. Terry quipped: “I know down south you don’t really talk to each other, but up here in the north we do things together mate. We’re a little bit different.

“What are the fans supposed to do, go ‘Oh wow, we’ve won a trophy’? I thought as a Tottenham fan, as someone who, at the moment, probably celebrates winning a corner, I thought you’d do a little bit better and give Newcastle fans a little bit more credit.”

The Scouser was then cut off by talkSPORT before O’Hara sarcastically took another parting shot at Newcastle. He told listeners: “Everyone is having this history chat about 70 years, who cares? It’s a load of old garbage. They're not that football club anymore.

“Get the violin out. ‘Oh, we’ve had heartbreak. We’ve had the Ashley years. Oh, oh (sarcastic crying). We needed this in the city. Oh, we’re a one-club city’. Aren’t Sunderland up there? Sunderland are up there, aren't they?”
