The Premier League have confirmed that its fixture list for next season will be announced at 9am on June 18 with the opening round of fixtures to take place on the weekend of August 16.

And league chiefs have said that the schedule, which will consist of 33 weekend and five midweek rounds of fixtures, has been designed to ensure the maximum level of rest is afforded to players ahead of next summer’s FIFA World Cup.

The season is scheduled to finish on May 24 of next year - before the call-up for international teams heading to the World Cup. The announcement follows confirmation last week that the Premier League would split the summer transfer window in two to facilitate deals before Chelsea and Manchester City compete in June’s expanded Club World Cup in the United States.

The league said: “The Premier League 2025/26 season dates have been confirmed, with the opening match round starting on Saturday 16 August 2025.

“The final match round will be played on Sunday 24 May 2026, when all matches will kick off simultaneously as usual. The 2025/26 season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek match rounds.”

There will be no game played on 24 December 2025 and the Festive fixtures will be designed to ease the demands on players.

The league added: “The schedule continues to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule.

“The start date of 16 August allows for the maximum player rest time available – 83 clear days – from the end of the 2024/25 season. The season end date of 24 May 2026 ensures the Premier League season finishes ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period.”

This season is set to wrap up on May 25 with the Club World Cup getting underway on June 14 and running to July 13. International fixtures will take place in early June to complicate the calendar further.
