Dianna Russini wouldn’t be surprised if Browns trade for Kirk Cousins

With the owners’ meeting underway, there aren’t many talking points surrounding the Atlanta Falcons more compelling than Kirk Cousins‘ future in Atlanta.

The veteran signal caller has expressed his wishes to everyone in the organization to start somewhere in the NFL, but it takes two to tango, and the partners the Falcons can take to the dance are dwindling.

There is one team that sticks out, and it seems like the only situation that could actually come to fruition — the Cleveland Browns. Dianna Russini recently reported ahead of the NFL owners’ meetings that based on what she’s heard it wouldn’t be surprising to see a trade between the Falcons and Browns for Cousins.

The Browns currently hold the 2nd overall pick, and with only two quarterbacks considered projected top 10 picks, it seems Cleveland’s choices are Shaduer Sanders, Kenny Pickett, Kirk Cousins, and Joe Flacco.

Deshaun Watson and Pickett are the only two signal callers under contract right now for the Browns. Perhaps they fall in love with Sanders, but even then, there’s a chance Cleveland prefers Sanders to sit behind a veteran. However, that would bring up the possibility of Cousins refusing to play for another team that drafted their quarterback of the future.

If the Browns don’t love Sanders, surely they wouldn’t be fine with going into the 2025 campaign with just Kenny Pickett. Kirk Cousins to Cleveland does make a lot of sense, especially considering they wouldn’t have to give up much draft capital and the Falcons would likely eat some of his salary.

But if the Browns decide to roll in any other direction, Kirk Cousins could actually spend the 2025 season in Atlanta as Michael Penix Jr.’s backup.
