Man City without key striker Erling Haaland for 'up to seven weeks'

The injury occurred in the second half when Haaland was involved in a challenge with Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook. Despite the setback, City remain hopeful that their goalscoring talisman could feature in the Club World Cup later in the summer, provided he recovers in time.

Manager [Pep Guardiola](https://www.heraldscotland.com/topics/pep-guardiola/) confirmed the extent of the injury during a press conference ahead of City’s upcoming clash against Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

"Sometimes there are years where these kinds of things happen, and it’s happened all season. All the injuries we’ve had this season, I’m so sorry for them and for Erling as well. We want him to recover as quickly as possible and come back," he said.

The City boss added: "The doctors told me between five and seven weeks, so hopefully for the end of the season and the Club World Cup he will be ready."

Haaland’s absence is a significant blow to City’s hopes of securing a [UEFA Champions League](https://www.heraldscotland.com/topics/champions-league/) qualification spot, as the prolific striker had just netted his 30th goal of the season to equalise in the victory over Bournemouth.

The injury means that the Norwegian will miss several crucial fixtures, including the Manchester derby at Old Trafford this Sunday and the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, which is scheduled for late April.

The FA Cup final on May 17, just a day short of seven weeks from the injury, could also be in jeopardy for Haaland. City’s final league match of the season will take place at Fulham on May 25, and they will face Wydad Casablanca in their opening match of the Club World Cup on June 18 in the United States.

While Marmoush, who arrived after two exceptional years at Eintracht Frankfurt, lacks Haaland’s physical presence and goal-scoring prowess, Guardiola is confident the team will adapt.

"We don’t have another player with his skills or his specific qualities," Guardiola admitted. "We know that, but we have to adapt. For many years we’ve played different ways up front. It depends on the quality of the players. We are going to try to find a solution."
