Man United monitoring£25 million Ligue 1 star

Manchester United make the trip to The City Ground to face Nottingham Forest when the Premier League resumes on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils have endured a dismal season so far and currently sit 13th in the league table, although they are unbeaten in their last four matches in the competition prior to the international break.

Head coach Ruben Amorim will be well aware that his side’s only realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season would be by winning the Europa League this time around.

United face French side Lyon over two legs in the quarter-finals of the competition, and it appears that the tie may give the English side an opportunity to watch one of their transfer targets in action.

According to TBR Football, Man United are one of a number of clubs interested in Lyon star Rayan Cherki.

Cherki is a target for Man United ahead of the summer transfer window

The report claims that the Red Devils are one of a number of English sides that have asked to be kept informed about the 21-year-old’s situation.

Cherki is a product of Lyon’s youth academy and has already played more than 175 times for the French side at senior level, scoring 25 goals and registering 42 assists.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are all also interested in the Frenchman, the report claims.

Cherki is under contract with Lyon until the end of next season, but his boyhood club are prepared to allow him to leave for a fee of around £25 million this summer.

The Frenchman’s versatility will likely appeal to potential suitors, with Cherki able to operate in a number of forward positions including as an attacking midfielder or as a winger on either flank.
