Man Utd are looking to strengthen their playing squad in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs monitoring Xavi Simons ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim is eager to add a new attacker to his squad at the end of the season, and the 21-year-old is one of those who could be of interest.

United were also linked with a move for Simons last summer, but he opted to make his loan move to RB Leipzig permanent in a €50 million deal plus a further €31 million in potential bonuses. The attacking midfielder has eight goals and five assists for Leipzig this season, though it is suggested they could still look to cash in on him this summer.

Romano claims several Premier League clubs are considering a summer move for the Dutch international and that United are one of those who could be interested. Here is what he had to say about the latest transfer rumours.

Manchester United 'monitoring' Xavi Simons

A report from Fabrizio Romano claims RB Leipzig feel Xavi Simons is open to a summer exit because he wants to try a new experience in his playing career. It is suggested there is a 'strong chance' he could leave the Bundesliga club, with several sides open to a potential move.

The report claims the Premier League is a 'top destination' for Simons, with Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea all supposedly monitoring developments. The report adds that several sources believe the Premier League could be a credible destination for the midfielder, but his 'biggest dream' would be to return to his former club Barcelona.

Romano adds that Simons could be available for a fee of around €70-75m (£58-62m) in this transfer window. That price tag is likely to rule out any imminent move to Old Trafford, given their tight financial situation and the fact that signing a striker is their current priority.

Manchester United summer transfer plans

Manchester United aim to add a striker, right winger and a central midfielder to their squad this summer, while they could also be in the market for a goalkeeper and an additional midfield player. Ruben Amorim has prioritised the addition of a striker due to a lack of experienced options at his disposal after a season in which they have struggled for goals.

Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are all expected to leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season, while Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro should all be sold. United know they must prioritise player sales to ease their tight financial situation and also raise transfer funds of their own.
