Fans in attendance for Monday’s Boston Celtics vs. Memphis Grizzlies game were treated to a vintage performance by Al Horford. Afterwards, a spirited Horford took time to shout out his alma mater, Florida, for its spirited run into the Final Four.
On the court, Horford delivered his best performance of the NBA season, leading the Celtics with 26 points in a 117-103 win. Horford found his touch from long range with 6 made 3-pointers to go with 8 rebounds and 2 assists for the defending NBA champions.
After the game, Horford was asked about that vintage performance and the prospects for Todd Golden and his Gators heading into the Final Four in San Antonio. Of course, the former All-SEC star is rooting for Florida, and he praised this year’s group for returning the program “back where it belongs.”
“I’m rooting for them to get 2 wins, one at a time. I’m so proud of those guys, they put the program back where it belongs on that stage, and I’m really excited,” said Horford.
BetMGM has Florida 2nd in the latest odds to win the Final Four, coming in behind Duke at +275 to win it all. Only the Blue Devils are better at +100, and the Gators are also a 2.5-point favorite vs. Auburn in Saturday’s national semifinals. Fans can grab the Florida sports betting apps to track the latest.
Horford is one of the top figures in Florida’s all-time basketball history, helping guide the Gators to back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007. He delivered 18 points and 12 rebounds in a head-to-head matchup with star big man Greg Oden and Ohio State in the 2007 title.
Now, we’ll see if Walter Clayton Jr., Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon can write their own title-winning story this year.
