Aston Villa fans are bracing themselves for another busy transfer window

Aston Villa were one of the busiest teams in the Premier League during the January transfer window.

Unai Emery’s side bolstered the team with the signings of Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia early in the winter window to bolster squad depth before reluctantly agreeing to the lucrative sale of prospect Jhon Duran to the Middle East.

Villa raised a total of £65m from the Colombian and reacted by exploding into life with a late flurry of loan signings as two high-profile names in Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford arrived to bolster the attack along with defender Axel Diasi from Chelsea.

But can fans expect to see in the summer transfer window from Aston Villa? Here we take a look at x deals already in the pipeline as we approach the summer window

Aston Villa make £40m Marcus Rashford decision

Marcus Rashford scored his first two goals for Aston Villa in the space of five minutes during a 3-0 win against Preston North End in the FA Cup quarter-final.

The Manchester United loanee, who has already earned his place back in the England squad under Thomas Tuchel, looks like a man reborn at the moment which only increased the likelihood of Villa activating the £40m clause in his contract to make the deal a permanent. However, the one stumbling block from a Villa perspective could be the forwards reported £315,000 per week wages, with the club currently paying 70% of that salary, according to Mail Sport.

Will Marco Asensio be made permanent?

Aston Villa got themselves a huge coup with the signing of out-of-favour PSG playmaker Marco Asensio, who could yet return to haunt his old team in the Champions League quarter-final.

The Spaniard has been in excellent form since joining Villa, scoring seven goals in his last five matches across all competitions and bagging braces in three successive home games. His loan deal does not currently have a permanent option, meaning Villa will have to negotiate to keep the 29-year-old on board.

Could Unai Emery finally sign Joao Felix?

In the last two transfer windows, Villa have expressed an interest in Joao Felix without being able to get their hands on the Portuguese international, who is currently experiencing a difficult season. Chelsea re-signed Felix in the summer from Atletico for a reported figure of £46.3m - which was less than half the £113m Diego Simeone spent to sign him from Benfica in 2019.

Felix struggled to start as a striker due to the form of Nicolas Jackson and failed to make the number 10 spot his own due to the presence of Cole Palmer. Ultimately, after six unsuccessful months at Stamford Bridge he was surplus to requirements and sent out on loan to AC Milan, where has managed just one goal in 11 appearances. However, Birmingham World understands Emery still admires the 25-year-old, who is expected to be available this summer either on loan or on a permanent basis.

Kourtney Hause finally departs

Kortney Hause hasn’t played a competitive match for more than two years due to a serious knee injury and several setbacks but the defender is hopeful of a return to action in the summer. The Athletic reports a fresh start is the best solution for all parties, with Hause’s contract due for expiry in June 2025. The defender himself has accepted a departure is the correct decision and he will not fight the process.

Hause, 29, arrived from Wolves and was initially seen as a huge prospect after helping Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 team to glory in the Toulon tournament. However, he has made just 32 Premier League appearances and has consistently battled with injuries. He is currently on the comeback trail, but it could come too late to reignite his career at Villa Park.

Robin Olsen, 35, is another at risk of running down his contract. He recently revealed that no discussions had taken place over his future but failed to rule out a new deal after filling in on occasion for Emi Martinez in between the posts.
