Josh Hubbard declares for NBA Draft after sophomore season at Mississippi State

Skip to content Josh Hubbard has made a quick impact for Chris Jans’s Mississippi State program. Now, the second-year point guard is declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft, though it is not a straightforward farewell for Hubbard.

According to Joe Tipton with On3 Sports, Hubbard is declaring for the draft but will maintain his college eligibility in the process. Underclassmen who declare for the draft have until June 15 to determine if they want to remain in the final draft or return to school, so Hubbard could still wind up in Starkville for the 2025-26 season.

The 5-foot-10 point guard came to Mississippi State as a 4-star recruit and the top player from Mississippi in 2023 per the 247 Sports Composite. He assumed the starting role for the Bulldogs in late January of his freshman season and never looked back. Hubbard has 69 career appearances and 50 starts under his belt, including starting in all 34 games this past season.

As a sophomore, Hubbard was Mississippi State’s leading scorer and finished 2nd in the SEC with 18.9 points per game. He was an All-SEC performer who also averaged 3.1 assists, 2.1 rebounds and shot 34.5% from 3-point range.

It’s worth noting, Hubbard did not appear in the latest 2025 NBA Mock Draft produced by ESPN, so it’s possible Hubbard returns to school if his draft grade is not where he would like to see it. For now, fans will just have to wait and see what the future holds.
