Ramzan Kadyrov’s teenage son (who beat a prisoner on camera) is appointed to oversee Chechnya’s police

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has rewarded his son Adam with another government role, this time appointing the 17-year-old boy to oversee the republic’s Internal Affairs Ministry. According to local state television, Adam Kadyrov has already issued a handful of first directives in the role. 

In September 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov released a video showing his son Adam [beating](https://meduza.io/en/news/2023/09/25/after-ramzan-kadyrov-posted-video-of-his-son-beating-detainee-human-rights-advocate-eva-merkacheva-demands-action-from-russia-s-justice-system) a jailed prisoner accused of burning a Quran. In the ensuing public scandal, Kadyrov said he was proud of his son, who promptly started receiving various state awards. In October, he was granted the title of Hero of the Chechen Republic, and in November, he was appointed head of Ramzan Kadyrov’s personal security service. Adam has also been appointed to oversee the Vladimir Putin Russian University of Special Forces in Gudermes, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Sheikh Mansur Battalion, and the National Guard’s Baysangur Benoyevsky Battalion.
