Newcastle United player who has not kicked a ball all season could be offered new deal -…

**There are several Newcastle United players whose contracts are set to expire in the summer, but not all are likely to depart.**

The Magpies have six players with contracts ticking down to expiration at the end of this season, but that number will soon drop to five with a new contract due to be signed 'imminently'.

Fabian Schar has been in talks with the club for a while and is close to signing a new contract extension after playing another huge part in Newcastle's season for Eddie Howe.

Indeed, just this morning in his pre-match press conference, Eddie Howe said Schar is close to signing a new deal.

Newcastle's summer transfer business will dictate the future of two goalkeepers

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That leaves five players with more uncertain futures, although it's really only four as it's practically a given that Jamal Lewis will leave the club when his deal lapses.

Callum Wilson has 10 games to fight for his future, but at 33 and with an injury record worse than my medical history, he'd be lucky to be offered an extension.

In his latest [Q&A for The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6243717/2025/04/01/newcastle-qa-isak-mitchell-contracts-stadium/), Chris Waugh suggests that goalkeepers Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy's future will hinge on what business Newcastle do in the summer, but at least one is very likely to depart you'd think.

Jamaal Lascelles could yet be kept around by Newcastle

------------------------------------------------------

This just leaves club captain Jamaal Lascelles whose only action this season was holding aloft the Carabao Cup with Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier as the club's three captains.

Lascelles has been out of commission since he underwent ACL surgery a year ago. While Sven Botman went under the knife at the same time, the Dutchman has managed to play some football this season before his other knee started to give him problems.

Eddie Howe confirmed today that we're not likely to see Lascelles in action this season. That could well mean we've seen the last of him at Newcastle.

However, Chris Waugh has suggested that, based purely on his influence off the pitch, Newcastle may yet opt to keep him around beyond the summer.

It would be a strange move financially speaking, but in terms of morale, it could be a wise decision. And an extra body in the squad can't hurt if there's room for him, but if we make enough signings that someone has to miss out, then surely, Lascelles is a prime candidate for that.
