Looking ahead to the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, there are a few needs that the Green Bay Packers will need to focus on.
One of those needs may or may not end up being the case by the time the draft arrives. A lot of that will have to do with what general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office decides to do with veteran star cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Alexander has been expected to be traded or released all offseason long. However, Gutekunst recently said that it’s possible he’ll be back in 2025.
If the Packers were to trade or release Alexander, they would need to bring in another talented cornerback. On the flip side, if they decide to keep Alexander, they would not need to focus heavily on another player at the position.
That being said, a new prediction has Green Bay landing a major steal in the second round of the 2025 draft.
Green Bay Packers Predicted to Land Huge Steal in 2025 NFL Draft
Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News has predicted the Packers to land East Carolina standout cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. in the second round of the draft at No. 54 overall.
“The Packers added Nate Hobbs to improve their nickel potential, but they need to consider their outside issues with fading Jaire Alexander. Revel is recovering well from his torn ACL, and when healthy, he’s a high-ceiling coverage prospect because of his size and speed.”
While he tore his ACL last season and there are concerns about him being able to get back to 100 percent, the potential that he brings to the field is worth taking a flier on. He could very well develop into being a star at the NFL level.
During the 2024 college football season in just three games played, Revel racked up eight tackles, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and two defended passes.
Standing in at 6-foot-3 and nearly 200 pounds, Revel combines great size to go along with good speed, athleticism, and quickness. He has the ability to become a lockdown cover corner. Green Bay should strongly consider taking him if he’s there in the second round.
In many mock drafts, Revel has been a first round pick. The Packers landing him in the second could go down as one of the biggest steals of the draft if he develops to his full potential.
