Once handed his professional debut by Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent is now 28 and has just been confirmed as Seattle Sounders' latest signing. This comes only five months after his contract was terminated when Jose Mourinho took over at Fenerbahce.

Kent, from Oldham, joined the Reds' Academy at the age of seven and first gained recognition on Brendan Rodgers' senior team's 2015 pre-season tour of Asia. It was only several months later that he would make his competitive debut in the FA Cup at Exeter City, this coming after Klopp had taken command, but it was not to be the start of a long and prosperous Liverpool career.

Instead the Englishman remained on the books whilst making loan switches to Barnsley, Freiburg, Bristol City and Rangers, where he would finally leave Anfield and join then-manager Steven Gerrard on a permanent basis in Scotland.

It was north of the border he helped win Rangers' invincible Scottish Premiership title with eight goals and eight assists, then the year after he lifted the Scottish Cup.

In summer 2023 Kent's next move came, this time signing a four-year deal in Turkey with Fenerbahce. He managed only eight league appearances with no returns in front of goal.

Mourinho took the manager's job at the same club last June, subsequently signing former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin. Finally on October 17 last year, Fenerbahce released the meagre statement: "Professional Football A Team player Ryan Kent's contract has been terminated by mutual agreement. We would like to inform the public."

In the time that has followed, the former Liverpool talent has been without a club to play for. That was at least until March 31, when MLS franchise Seattle Sounders announced his arrival.

Kent takes their No.77 shirt and joins for the remainder of the 2025 campaign with the club's option to take up an additional year, they confirmed.

"Ryan is a very good player with an impressive pedigree, and we're excited to bring him into our team," said Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer.

"He’s got real quality on the ball, is effective at taking players on and stretches opposing backlines, which should give us another dimension in the final third. We’re confident Ryan will integrate quickly and give us a big lift as we continue a long, gruelling 2025 campaign."
