Manchester United have been haunted by their former star Anthony Elanga as the ex-Carrington youth graduate scored for Nottingham Forest.
Elanga gave Forest the lead against United just five minutes into their Premier League clash.
The flying Swede picked the ball up from halfway inside his own half after Forest cleared a corner.
Elanga drove with speed and determination at the United defenders who had stayed back for the set-piece, and left Alejandro Garnacho on the floor as the Argentine attempted to make a desperate tackle.
The 22-year-old then placed the ball in the far bottom corner, leaving Andre Onana no chance, before he reeled away towards the corner flag in a muted celebration.
Fans took to X to react to the goal, with one user calling it a “beautiful goal”. A second said: “Corr that's some goal, unbelievable.” While a third added: “He didn’t wanna celebrate too much and I can respect that.”
However, criticism also came in for the woeful United defending, after Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui failed to close down Elanga before he took the shot on.
One United fan ranted: “Don't know what dorgu, ugarte and mazraoui were doing.” With a second slamming: “Helps when everyone just backs off and lets him have a clear shot at goal.”
Elanga joined Forest in 2023 in a £15million deal after coming through the youth ranks at Carrington and making 55 appearances for the Red Devils’ first team.
But the winger has found his feet and best form this season at the City Ground. Elanga has 11 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League since joining Forest.
