Dallas has a lot of holes on its roster and one position that they could use help at is wide receiver. Outside of CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys are not deep at all and quarterback Dak Prescott needs a reliable number two wide receiver. During the 2024 NFL season, Lamb caught passes 101 for 1,194 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 11.8 yards per reception. He also was targeted 152 times.

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden (2) stiff arms Kentucky Wildcats defensive back Maxwell Hairston (1) in the first quarter of an NCAA college football game at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2024.
CBS Sports writer Garrett Podell created his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. With the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, he has Dallas selecting wide receiver Matthew Golden from the Texas Longhorns. This move would make sense for both parties.
Golden has probably been scouted a lot by the Cowboys during the 2024 college football season. He was the Longhorns top wide receiver target during the season. Podell said about this possible selection,
“The Cowboys finally spring for a real WR2 for All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott and All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. He led a Texas squad that reached the College Football Playoff’s final four in both receiving yards (987) and receiving touchdowns (nine), the latter of which co-led the entire SEC in 2024. Golden also raised his stock at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine when he ran a 4.29-second 40-yard dash, the fastest of all wide receivers. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones also loves his Texas connections, and he gets one for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.”
Golden would no question be the second-best wide receiver on Dallas’s roster for the 2025 NFL season if they decided to draft him. They are missing another element to this offense. Dallas does need take some pressure off of Lamb despite how great he has been for the Cowboys over the last several seasons.
There is a chance that Dallas could draft tight end Tyler Warren from the Penn State Nittany Lions or running back Ashton Jeanty from the Boise State Broncos with this selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Both of those choices no doubt would help Dallas, but Golden had 58 receptions and averaged 17.0 yards per reception with the Longhorns in college football and would take some pressure off of Lamb also.
