Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was forced off early on against Fulham with an injury

Arsenal have been handed another injury concern ahead of games with Everton and Real Madrid after Gabriel Magalhaes was forced off early on against Fulham on Tuesday night.

The defender pulled up when sprinting back and was limping around the pitch before the ball went out of play. The centre-back went straight down to the turf and received treatment before walking off with a distraught and upset look on his face as he was replaced by Jakub Kiwior.

It comes as a concern - and a frustration - for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta who was able to include Bukayo Saka in a matchday squad for the first time since he was injured in a 5-1 win over Crystal Palace back in mid-December.

BBC Sport reported on their live blog of the incident: “Gabriel limps straight down the tunnel after being substituted with what looks like a hamstring injury.”

While the Gunners take on Fulham on Tuesday night, they make the trip to Goodison Park to face Everton at the stadium for the final time before the Toffees move to Bramley Moore Dock. With Arsenal having a big total to overhaul in the race for the Premier League title, they will have their focus on their Champions League exploits as Real Madrid visit North London on April 8.

The Gunners have another home game the following weekend before making the trip to Spain for the return leg of their quarter final. If Gabriel’s injury is enough to keep him out of action for those games, Kiwior is likely to partner Saliba in the heart of the Arsenal defence.

Speaking about the incident, former Brighton and Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It feels as though Arsenal's season has revolved around injuries. Just one major player missing after another. Watching Gabriel limp around the back of the goal it will be devastating for Mikel Arteta and his side going into the huge challenges against Real Madrid.”

Gabriel injury history with Arsenal

The defender missed six games during the 2020-21 season while he was absent for four matches in the following campaign. He did not have any injury problems during the 2022-23 campaign as he played in all 38 Premier Legaue games for Arsenal as they challenged Manchester City for the title.

The Gunners went head-to-head with Pep Guardiola’s side again last season as Gabriel played in 36 of the club’s 38 games but was on the bench for the two matches that he did not play in. He has missed a handful of matches this campaign with two different knee injuries as he missed a 2-0 win over Manchester United and 1-1 draw with Fulham in December as well as a 3-0 home win over Monaco.
