Alan Pardew believes Andoni Iraola has not done enough to warrant the Tottenham job
Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a disappointing campaign under Ange Postecoglou, with the club falling well short of expectations. Spurs currently sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table, having suffered 15 defeats in just 29 games—a far cry from the ambitions set at the start of the season. Postecoglou’s second year at the helm has been turbulent, with little going to plan for the Australian manager.
Their latest setback came in a lacklustre performance against Fulham just before the international break. It was a one-sided affair, with the Lilywhites looking completely out of sorts and failing to meet even the most basic expectations of the fanbase. This season has been marred by inconsistency and a relentless string of injuries, preventing the team from building any real momentum. As a result, Spurs’ progress under Postecoglou has stalled significantly, raising concerns about the direction in which the club is heading.
Alan Pardew believes Andoni Iraola has not done enough to warrant the Tottenham job.
Will Ange Postecoglou survive the sack?
With nothing left to play for in the Premier League, the Europa League now stands as the only glimmer of hope for both Tottenham Hotspur fans and Ange Postecoglou himself. Spurs have reached the quarter-finals of the competition, where they face a tough test against an in-form Eintracht Frankfurt side.
This European campaign has taken on even greater importance, not just as the club’s final shot at silverware this season, but also as a potential pathway to secure European football for next year. Reports suggest that Postecoglou’s future at the club could hinge on how his team performs in the competition, making it a defining moment in what has otherwise been a frustrating campaign.
Alan Pardew gives his take on Iraola’s Tottenham links
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly already exploring managerial alternatives amid growing pressure on Ange Postecoglou. Club chairman Daniel Levy is believed to have drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements, with current Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola emerging as the leading candidate. According to Football Insider, Iraola is Spurs’ number one target should they decide to part ways with Postecoglou. The Spaniard has impressed with his work on the South Coast, and his profile aligns with the club’s long-term vision, making him a serious contender to take over at N17 if the managerial change is made.
But former Premier League manager Alan Pardew does not think the current Cherries boss has done enough to warrant a move to North London. Speaking on TalkSport, Pardew said,
“If Spurs come calling and I was him, I would jump at the chance I’m afraid. Big club, and you have to understand where a manager’s head is, particularly when you’re doing well. You can kind of take on anything, you feel like, ‘I’ll change that situation. Ok, Spurs, there’s a lot of managers who have fallen down there, but I’ll be the one that can do it.’ That’s your mindset.”
The former Newcastle manager said,
“Because sometimes supporters look at it and go, ‘Why would you leave Bournemouth? You’ve got a great team, you could probably be there for another two, three, four years, Spurs would be a gamble. But actually in your mind, you’re not thinking like that, you’re thinking, ‘I’m going to go to Spurs, turn that around and win them a cup. I don’t think he’s done enough by the way, personally, to warrant a move to Spurs.”
Alan Pardew has weighed in on the speculation linking Andoni Iraola to Tottenham, suggesting that a move to North London would be a significant gamble for the Bournemouth boss. Pardew believes that, at present, Bournemouth are in a more stable position than Spurs, making the managerial switch a risky proposition.
However, he also questioned whether Iraola has done enough over a sustained period to justify landing such a high-pressure role. While Iraola’s work at Bournemouth has earned praise, Pardew feels the Spaniard may still need more time and experience before making a leap to a club of Tottenham’s stature.
