At the NFL league meetings, the tush push play popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles has been easily the biggest topic of discussion. While the vote that would decide whether the play would get banned has been tabled for the time being, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently weighed in on the subject.
The Eagles developed the tush push as their own variation of a quarterback sneak, which sees two players line up behind their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, and push him forward in short yardage situations. While the ban received growing support across the league, the official vote did not happen during these meetings.
"NFL owners plan to continue discussions about the Philadelphia Eagles' short-yardage tush push play after tabling a proposal Tuesday to ban it, league officials said," Kevin Seifert of ESPN reported.
Several coaches and owners were asked their opinion of the potential ban, with 16 teams reportedly in favor of getting rid of the play. It seems like Goodell is in favor of the ban, saying that he's open to reverting the rule that would prevent players carrying the ball from being pushed or picked up by members of their own team.
"Roger Goodell addressing the media now at the NFL Owners Meetings: On the Tush Push: Discussion was good. Shared a lot of data. 'I think there are safety issues. There's a lot of discussion about going back to the previous rule,'" Josina Anderson shared in a post on X.

The Eagles utilized the tush push to help win Super Bowl LIX, as they picked up a blowout 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. For now, the play remains a part of their playbook, but whether or not that remains true by the time Week 1 of the 2025 campaign rolls around remains to be seen.
