Pittsburgh Steelers Getting “Positive” Signs They Will Land Aaron Rodgers in 2025

When the Pittsburgh Steelers allowed both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson to depart their organization in free agency, it was commonly assumed that they would be in play for four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. Ironically, it was Fields who signed by the New York Jets to replace Rodgers after he was released.

Also ironically, Wilson was signed by the New York Giants, another team that had been believed to be in play for Rodgers’ services in 2025.

But weeks have gone by and the Steelers still have not come to a contract agreement with the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback. That being said, Pittsburgh owner Art Rooney is not worried.

Speaking at the annual NFL owners meetings today, Steelers owner Art Rooney told reporters that he feels that Rodgers is “headed in our direction.”

To be specific, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN, Rooney is hearing good things. “We keep getting positive sort of signals about it. So yeah, I’d say we feel pretty good about it at this point.”

That being said, Rooney is not willing to wait forever for Rodgers to make a decision on the 2025 season.

“Not forever, but a little while longer,” he said when asked how long the Steelers were willing to wait.

Rooney did say that Rodgers’ decision to have a throwing session with DK Metcalf, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver that Pittsburgh acquired via trade earlier this offseason was, “a good sign.”

Of the meeting that he and Steelers coaches and front office staff had with Rodgers a couple of weeks ago, Rooney said, “It was good to meet him. talked about Pittsburgh and all the Pittsburgh coaches he’s had over the years. We had a good conversation.”

But while all the signs point to Rodgers signing with the Steelers at some point this offseason, no one really knows when that will be.
