The Philadelphia Eagles aren't pleased that a play they created is being so heavily scrutinized that the league is debating on banning it outright.
Philadelphia's variation of the quarterback sneak, called the Tush Push, has been pushed off by the league at owner meetings this week for May. The decision to push off the vote is so that other owners can job on the side of banning the play outright.
And that has angered Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie.
Many different reasons have been given by the league as to why the Eagles Tush Push should be banned with health and pace of play being two key factors. In typical Lurie, fashion, though, the owner had answers for all of them.
"I want to know what data there is (of the play capable of causing an injury)," Lurie said to reporters in West Palm Beach. "I don't think there is any. If you wanna say that it could be, it's hard to make rules on could be's and should be's."
Another key part of the criticism has been that the "aesthetic" of the play isn't something related to what fans want to see in football.
Again, Lurie came to correct.

"I remember reading about the forward pass and they said it really was an odd play that is no part of American football, so it was controversial when the forward pass came out," Lurie said. I think aestheticism is very subjective. I've never judged when a play looks OK. Does a screen pass look better than an in-route or an out-route? I don't know. For me it's not a very relative critique that it doesn't look right or something like that. What looks right?"
At the end of the day, the league can give all the reasons they want, the reality is that the rest of the league is envious of what the Eagles have built.
"I don't ever remember a play being banned because a single team or a few teams were running it effectively. It's part of what I think what I love and we love most about football is it's a chess match. Let the chess match play out."
