Carmelo Anthony Reveals He Wants To Buy Specific NBA Franchise: ‘I’ll Be a Great Owner’

One of the greatest scorers of all time, Carmelo Anthony, wants to buy an NBA franchise.

Surprisingly, though, it's not a team he played for during his Hall of Fame career.

On the latest episode of his podcast called "7 PM in Brooklyn," Anthony said he wants to buy the Washington Wizards.

"I wanna buy the Wizards," Anthony said. "I'll be a great owner. ... Former player. I understand players. I understand personnel. I understand being strategic. I understand how to build teams."

Anthony played for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers. He doesn't have any connection to the Wizards, but by the sound of it, Anthony is serious about buying the Washington franchise.

The Wizards are in rebuild mode. They have the worst record in the Eastern Conference and are well positioned to land the top pick in the draft lottery. Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg is projected to be the top prize in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Washington hasn't made the playoffs since 2021. No one knows when the franchise will be relevant again. Despite that, though, Anthony remains interested in the team.

A 10-time All-Star, Carmelo Anthony finished his NBA career with averages of 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He made 10 All-Star teams and six All-NBA teams.

Anthony won the 2013 scoring title with the Knicks. He's 10th in NBA history in points.
