If the Philadelphia Eagles had any hope of being able to continue to run their fabled "Tush Push" going into the 2025 season, that hope was all but squashed Tuesday morning.
In league meetings to discuss the latest rule change proposals, the league penciled the conversation surrounding the Tush Push to their next meeting in May.
Translation?
As things stand, the league doesn't have enough votes to pass a ban, so they'll just wait another couple of months to try and do so again with more lobbying. That reality hit harder when Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer discussed what really went on behind closed doors in the discussion.
"Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman defended the play, asking the room for the injury data showing that the concept was creating player-safety issue, then asked for the statistics that show it to be demonstrably more dangerous than a conventional quarterback sneak," Breer reported. "NFL chief medical officer Allen Sills returned volley in saying that while there haven't been a preponderance of injuries on the play, the league's feeling was that when an injury does eventually happen on it, based on the players' posture, it could be catastrophic."
Yes, the league chief medical officer, despite recognizing that no reported injuries have come from the Tush Push, is adamantly defending against the ban proposal because of injuries that "may" come from the play in the future.

If the league was open to keeping the play around, they would have taken the vote today, and the 16 or so teams that voted against it would have failed. By pushing out for another couple of months, it gives the league time to "collect more data" and push even further.
Make no mistake, the Tush Push is in its last few months of use.
The league won't allow it anymore.
