New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is Logan Roy from the hit TV show “Succession” in this scenario.
Kraft’s son, Jonathan Kraft, would be Kendall Roy. Robyn Glaser would have made a perfect Shiv Roy if she didn’t resign in January following the hiring of Mike Vrabel. Perhaps Robert Kraft’s son, Josh Kraft, could take the role of Connor Roy due to his interest in becoming Boston’s mayor. That would leave Kraft’s other sons, Daniel and David, to battle to be Roman Roy.
But who would play Tom Wambsgans and Greg Hirsch in this situation? We’ll tab Ryan Cowden or perhaps even Vrabel as Wambsgans and Eliot Wolf as Hirsch just because it feels like he’s just hanging on with a job in the organization.
So why mention all of that? Well, the topic of Robert Kraft, who turns 84 in June, stepping down from his perch atop the Patriots came up when he spoke with reporters Tuesday from the annual NFL owners’ meetings.
And in all seriousness, Kraft did state that a succession plan for the Patriots was already in place.

“You know, in life, look, I was a little kid sitting on one of those benches dreaming about owning this team and bringing a winning culture here. I said after my family, this team and this foundation to combat hate and anti-Semitism, those are my passions,” Kraft told reporters, per MassLive’s Karen Guregian. “As far as succession, succession is there. My eldest son, Jonathan, has been part of every key decision I’ve made for the last 30-odd years and is a full partner in everything. He stays out of the limelight.”
For now, Kraft remains in charge and hopes to see the Patriots make it back to the postseason after two straight disappointing 4-13 seasons.
But Kraft did let on that down the road, possibly in the near future, he could give way and let Jonathan Kraft take the reins.
“We have a plan that is in place for all of our businesses. Were you suggesting something like that?” Kraft said. “You know, that’s a bias. Sometimes with age, you have experience. But let’s see what happens this year. Let’s see what happens over the next two, three years.”

It’s all lining up for Jonathan Kraft to take over. It was that way for Kendall Roy, too, until he got blindsided at the end, leaving us with an epic quote that will live on.
That probably won’t be the case for Jonathan Kraft, but as “Succession” proved, things can get real messy when a throne is up for grabs.
