Man Utd did not offer enough of an attacking threat against Nottingham Forest.
Ruben Amorim defended Alejandro Garnacho after his poor performance in Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night. The 20-year-old worked hard throughout the contest but cut a frustrated figure for his side as they fell to a narrow loss at the City Ground.
Garnacho wasted numerous chances but lasted the entirety of the match as his side chased the game in the hope of a dramatic equalising goal. The Argentine has nine goals and eight assists this season, but has only managed one goal in his last 22 appearances across all competitions.
The fact Amorim persisted with the academy graduate until the final whistle highlighted the faith he has in the youngster, though he admits the forward was guilty of some poor decision-making as he looked to salvage a frustrating performance.

Speaking after the full-time whistle at the City Ground, Ruben Amorim defended Alejandro Garnacho's performance on a night when the entire team underperformed, but admitted the forward had been guilty of trying too hard at times. United managed 23 efforts in the match, but only six of them were on target.
"He is making everything," Amorim told reporters. "He is trying. Sometimes you have one day that you are doing the right things but in the final third we were not that good. That can happen.
"That can happen in the game. The most important thing for me again is that when he needs to run back, he is running back. Of course, we want a player that is one against one. Sometimes he is trying too much. He has (Patrick) Dorgu to make a movement but I think he wants to help the team. He is doing his best, sometimes he doesn't make the best choice but that you can point to any player today."
