Revealed: Arsenal get green light to sign Wolves player

Arsenal interest in wantaway Wolves star Matheus Cunha has not gone away ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old only signed a new contract at Molineux in February but has already announced publicly that he wants to move on in the off-season – giving the green light to interested parties.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (1 April) that Liverpool are considering Cunha as a potential Darwin Nunez replacement.

Arsenal could battle the Premier League champions-elect for the Brazil international’s signature this summer.

Sources say the Gunners already did the groundwork on a deal for Cunha while former sporting director Edu Gaspar was at the club.

New transfer chief Andrea Berta also has a link to the forward, having signed him for Atletico Madrid in 2021.

Cunha will be available for £62.5million via a release clause inserted into his new contract with Wolves.

The 13-cap Brazil star has hit 15 goals in 29 games across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign with Vitor Pereira’s side set to survive relegation to the Championship.

Cunha has told the media in recent days that he is keen to fight for titles and big honours away from Molineux.

Arsenal close to agreeing Nwaneri deal

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 27 March that Arsenal are closing in on an agreement over a new contract for Ethan Nwaneri after the latest round of talks.

Man City and Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on his situation but remains a long-term part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Nwaneri has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season, scored eight goals and provided one assist.
