With their bitter rivals Liverpool expected to lift the Premier League trophy come May, Everton will be fighting for pride at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds are well clear at the top of the table and, barring an unprecedented collapse, will clinch their first league title since the COVID-19 struck 2019/20 season.

Arne Slot’s men return to Premier League action after a lengthy break that followed their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. They host an Everton side which has struggled of late, despite David Moyes’ initially promising start to his second spell at Goodison Park.

Since their dramatic 2-2 Merseyside Derby draw at home on February 12, the Toffees have won just one game and drawn their last four fixtures. But the Blues at least look safe now from the threat of relegation.

The last ever Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park provided plenty of thrills, including a 98th minute James Tarkowski equaliser, two players sent off at the death, and even a red card for Slot. And ahead of the Dutchman’s second crack at the fixture, Mirror Football brings you all you need to know about watching the match.

What time is Liverpool vs Everton?

Slot’s Liverpool host Everton in an 8pm (BST) kick-off on Wednesday, April 2. Five other Premier League midweek fixtures will also commence that evening, though they will all be played at the slightly earlier time of 7.45pm.

Those fixtures include Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United and Manchester City vs Leicester City. The reason behind the midweek clashes is that last weekend belonged to the FA Cup, with the four quarter-final ties having taken place across Saturday and Sunday.

This season is the first of a six-year agreement between the Premier League and FA Cup that sees the domestic cup competition given exclusive calendar windows for rounds four (last 32) and five (last 16), as well as the quarter-finals. The reason for that is the scrapping of a winter break this year and the expanded UEFA competitions ending their previous two-month break between the group stages and knockout phases.

Team news

Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold for the Merseyside Derby. The defender, who is set to join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer, is out with an ankle injury. Right-back options Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are also still out, meaning Jarell Quansah may have to deputise in that position.

Elsewhere, first-choice goalkeeper Alisson will return after suffering a concussion during Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Colombia. Both he and Ryan Gravenberch were doubts but took part in full training at Kirkby on Monday.

Meanwhile, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil and Ilman Ndiaye are all uncertainties due to their respective injuries. The Toffees could be without Vitalii Mykolenko too after he suffered a thigh injury on international duty for Ukraine.
