Todibo and Kudus omissions deflected from Potter's truly shocking selection decision vs Wolves

West Ham United were awful against Wolves, and Graham Potter has to start showing that he’s capable of getting some results.

The West Ham players looked tired against Wolves, having had 17 days without a game!

Graham Potter has so much work on his hands at the London Stadium, and he needs to be incredibly ruthless with certain players this summer.

The performance from the Hammers against Wolves was a tedious one to watch.

Graham Potter has to realise that this is not the football the West Ham fans want to see.

And he had better wise up to that fact quickly.

Graham Potter’s truly shocking West Ham decision vs Wolves

All the talk pre-game was about the fact that Mohammed Kudus wasn’t in the squad and Jean-Clair Todibo had to make do with a place on the bench.

Kudus missed the game due to an apparent ‘fitness issue’. I’m sorry, but even if he was 50% fit he’d have been better than most of our players.

Meanwhile, Todibo not starting was made even worse by the fact that the hapless Konstantinos Mavropanos took his place.

However, Potter made an even worse decision than those two mentioned above.

The Hammers head coach decided to use James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta as a double pivot in the middle of the park.

As soon as the team-sheets were released it looked like a disaster waiting to happen.

The best West Ham have looked under Graham Potter is with a midfield three of Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, despite their respective faults.

Those three players provide us with the best balance, but we obviously have to sacrifice any kind of creativity, quality or guile.

Until Graham Potter signs two midfielders who can perform the duties of those three players, West Ham will not make any progress.

The Hammers need a powerful box-to-box midfielder with stamina, athleticism and energy to burn, whilst an intelligent passer of the football is required as well – someone who can break the lines.

The upcoming summer transfer window is a hugely important one for Graham Potter, and I just hope that he realises how much work is required.
