Prem giants battle for Gyokeres

Manchester United and Arsenal could be the main frontrunners for Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

The Gunners’ new sporting director Andrea Berta has reportedly added the Sporting Lisbon hero to his strike options.

Berta has vowed he will help bring “major trophies” to the Emirates.

And Gyokeres has notched 85 goals plus 26 assists in 92 games for his Portuguese club this season.

But United are also said to be keen – not least because the Swede starred under Old Trafford chief Ruben Amorim at Sporting.

Gyokeres is thought to have a release clause of around £50million.

Guests included 6ft 4in quarterback legend Tom Brady and 7ft 1in basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal.

The sporting giants towered over 5ft 11in Becks and his shorter pal, Authentic Brands founder Jamie Salter.

Also attending the do at swanky Italian diner Cipriani was Becks’ wife Victoria, and their children Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13.

Eldest son Brooklyn, 26, had work commitments.

Becks’ big day is not until May 2, but a source explained: “This party took place so early because of the Inter Miami schedule.

"They played the night before and a lot of people flew in to watch that too, including Jack Whitehall.

“They hired out Cipriani, which is an old favourite of the Beckhams. There was a free bar, and they all partied late into the night.

“David is planning other events and will be turning 50 in style.

"He will do a big dinner for his family and friends closer to his birthday and then will spend the day itself doing something with just Victoria, their parents and the kids.

“They like to keep their actual birthdays more private and Victoria will be planning something very special.”

Real Betis star Isco believes that his side should “crowdfund” to keep Man Utd loanee Antony.

The Brazilian, 25, has scored two goals and laid on a pair of assists in LaLiga since moving in January.

On Antony’s future, Isco told DAZN: “We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year.

“We’ve noticed a change since he arrived; he brings us a lot.

“I’m happy to have Antony here. He’s surprised us all with his humility and desire to help.”

Prem chiefs to change VAR from April 12

Prem chiefs will finally roll out semi-automated offside technology for the final seven rounds of top flight games, starting on April 12, writes MARTIN LIPTON.

Club bosses approved the introduction of the new system last summer, with a planned launch in the autumn.

US-based Genius Sport devised the specialist cameras – up to 28 per match – which deploy the “mesh tracking” of 10,000 plus data points for each player.

But a series of issues and concerns about the accuracy of the system saw the launch date put back.

While it was used for the first time at seven of the eight FA Cup fifth round ties, an eight minute delay before Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez’ “goal” against Wolves was eventually ruled out brought a cautious response from Prem leaders.

All clubs had been warned that even with SAOT there will still be some situations – such as the one at Bournemouth – where crosshairs and lines will have to be used rather than simply taking the computer call and illustrating it with virtual animation.

But last weekend’s quarter final games in the Cup passed off without any concerns.

And Premier League bosses confirmed the decision, arguing: “The technology maintains the integrity of the VAR process while enhancing the speed, efficiency, and consistency of offside decision-making.”

Utd sub ratings

Rasmus Hojlund - 5

Was much better than a woeful Zirkzee up front for Man Utd. But didn't cause any significant danger and never looked like a goalscoring threat. Harry Maguire looked far more lethal as a false nine after he entered the pitch with a lot more presence inside the box.

Christian Eriksen - 4

Didn't really elevate United's midfield after Ugarte and Casemiro's exit. The sort of performance that makes one wonder about his Old Trafford future...

Harry Maguire - 5

Only played nine minutes as a false nine and was by far Man Utd's best forward. Brought on as a desperation move that almost paid off with the best chance of the match as his last-gasp effort was cleared by Murillo just off the line.

Mason Mount - N/A

Utd's attacking rating

Alejandro Garnacho - 2

Very disappointing performance from the winger. Completely hopeless before Elanga's goal with a desperate tackle and was lucky to avoid a booking for a ridiculous challenge on Yates while the Argentina international was on the attack.

A game riddled with heavy touches, failed dribbles, wrong passes, blocked shots and a silly yellow card as he kicked the ball away in frustration. Had a good shot on 69 minutes as a saving grace.

Joshua Zirkzee - 3

Was supposed to be a striker but was often seen playing too deep and didn't register a chance in front of Forest's goal. Didn't inspire any danger even after Rasmus Hojlund came on to help him up front.

Midfield ratings

Diogo Dalot - 6

A strong performance down the right wing with some fine runs and good crosses. Registered United's best chance in the first half when his header rattled Forest's crossbar.

Casemiro - 4

At fault for Elanga's goal as there was absolutely no midfield presence during Forest's counter.

Loads of inaccurate passes and got booked for a reckless challenge on Yates before complaining in a very unjust way. Registered three shots but didn't cause concern for Matz Sels.

Manuel Ugarte - 4

Cut a rather anonymous figure, among the guilty parties for Elanga's goal as Man Utd's midfield was caught sleeping. Rightly substituted at half-time.

Bruno Fernandes - 6

Registered the game's first shot on target with a powerful effort that required a lunge from Sels, and that was basically United's best shot throughout the entire match.

Fernandes produced some fine long balls and upgraded Man Utd's midfield after Ugarte and Casemiro's exits.

Utd player ratings at Forest - defence

Andre Onana - 5

Can't blame him for Nottingham Forest's winner as Anthony Elanga's shot was too good. Made a stunning save to deny Ryan Yates' header without knowing the Forest ace was offside.

Patrick Dorgu - 5

A fine display during the first half as he cut a strong presence down the left flank, even though he was completely outrun by Elanga before the goal.

But the versatile full-back was the complete opposite in the second half with a series of errors against a stunning Neco Williams.

Leny Yoro - 5

Should have been more aware before Elanga's goal that came straight after a Man Utd corner-kick in which he had moved forward.

One could argue Yoro made up for it when he stopped a fine run by Elanga in the second half with an amazing and well-timed challenge to save United from a second.

Matthijs de Ligt - 4

The centre-back was also nowhere to be seen before Elanga's goal. No other major errors but should have done better on the rebound after Diogo Dalot's header hit the crossbar.

Noussair Mazraoui - 4

Completely hopeless during Elanga's run that led to the goal and struggled in his defensive duties, especially in the first half. Not sure if the full-back fits in a defensive trio as part of Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation…

Keane names toughest opponent

Vieira is NOT the hardest rival keane faced

Vieira is NOT the hardest rival keane faced

The iconic midfielder's intense clashes with Arsenal hero Patrick Vieira are the stuff of legend.

The Republic of Ireland great also got to face Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard when he was coming up in the Premier League.

But the popular pundit ultimately went for Ballon d'Or winner Zinedine Zidane.

Keane told ITV: "I'd probably say... Not gonna say Vieira, not Gerrard...

"Truthfully, Zidane would probably be the toughest opponent. Big, strong boy.

"Technically brilliant, very aggressive, scored on the big occassions.

"So Zidane would have been the toughest I've played against."

Utd fans blast Forest's Ona goal in match programme

Nottingham Forest's official matchday programme pulled no punches when discussing Manchester United, writes ETIENNE FERMIE.

Nuno Espirito Santo's high-flyers welcome the Red Devils to the City Ground this evening.

Magazine article featuring Manchester United players André Onana and Bruno Fernandes.

Forest's programme wasn't too complimentary of Andre Onana

Forest go into the match sitting a staggering 10 places above Ruben Amorim's side in the Premier League table.

And their media team haven't been afraid to stick the boot in pre-game.

Forest's matchday programme, as is customary for most teams, included a "Ones to Watch" section for their visitors.

Including a player from each position, the feature spotlighted Andre Onana, Matthijs de Ligt, Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund.

And fans couldn't help but notice the brutal entry for the Man Utd goalkeeper, which included the excerpt: "Onana is capable of both the sublime and ridiculous between the posts and he can possess erratic tendencies at times."

Seeing the comment, one fan fumed on X: "Taking the p*** that. If only United put 'Elanga couldn't hack the pressure at United but is thriving at his new tiny club' in their programme."

While a second wrote: "Rivals clocked that they can just shoot at the goal post and they are gonna score."

A third added: "They violating man I need a masterclass from u now Onana**.**"
