The Premier League returned on Tuesday night with habits continuing for plenty of clubs - including Champions League-chasing Nottingham Forest. They downed Manchester United at home to further their own push for a top four spot.

The prospect of playing in Europe's top competition is becoming increasingly real after they saw off the Red Devils. The loss kept them in the bottom half with the extended break ultimately doing them no favours and their hopes now rest solely on the Europa League.

Bukayo Saka enjoyed a triumphant return after months out injured. The Arsenal man came off the bench and needed just seven minutes to score what proved to be the winning goal as the Gunners overcame Fulham to remain in control of second spot.

Elsewhere Wolves beat West Ham to further ease any relegation fears with the matches continuing to come on Wednesday night. A Merseyside derby headlines the fixture list whilst Manchester City host Leicester and Carabao Cup winners Newcastle welcome Brentford. Here's the latest from around the country.

Amorim takes aim at players

Ruben Amorim didn't hold back in his assessment at the City Ground with his players copping the brunt of his frustration after a narrow 1-0 defeat. The Portuguese bemoaned his players' performances after the loss, which came due to a goal from former United man Anthony Elanga, claiming that they 'helped Forest win three points'.

"We controlled the game, but we already knew this team (Forest) can score goals out of nothing," Amorim told TNT Sports post-match. "When they scored we changed the game a little bit from what they want. We need to win games and we deserved more in this game, that is clear, but it is our fault and we need to be better in the last third. We should have won this game, not even drawn, but in the end we have lost three points.

"We know the characters of the team and one goal can put them in one situation they love. We have to score two goals to win a match and that is frustrating as it was the beginning of the game. We helped them to win three points."

Arsenal's latest injury blows

Mikel Arteta appeared less than optimistic about Gabriel's chances of facing Real Madrid as the Arsenal defender was forced off with a hamstring injury against Fulham, while he admitted Jurrien Timber struggled for much of the game.

Brazilian defender Gabriel was taken off after only 16 minutes of the match when he pulled up as he raced back to defend, and the centre-back was replaced by Jakub Kiwior.

But the Gunners also lost Dutch defender Timber in the second period too, as the former Ajax man left the field having picked up a knee problem in the first half. Arteta told the BBC on Gabriel: "He felt something, he's not sure how bad it is. The fact that he could not continue is not a good sign, obviously

Salah to Saudi remains possible

Salah heading to Saudi Arabia has not been overly discussed in recent weeks, but the prospect remains very real. The Egyptian is out of contract at the end of June and nothing has been agreed to keep him at Anfield with those in the Middle East ready to pounce.

The forward was the subject of a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 and it appears as though one of their rivals will now come to the table. The Telegraph claim that clubs in Saudi Arabia are confident that Salah remains open to the prospect of making a lucrative move overseas.

Salah is said to be prioritising talks with Liverpool for now, but the offer of major cash from Al-Hilal isn’t to be ruled out entirely. Things are likely to intensify in the coming months, especially once Liverpool have secured the Premier League title.
