"I want to buy the Wizards," Melo said on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast. "I would be a great owner. I'm a former player, I understand players, I understand personell, being strategic, how to build teams and I also understand what I don't understand."
The Wizards are currently struggling, sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a dismal 16-59 record. Their last playoff appearance came in the 2020-21 season when they secured the eighth seed led by Russell Westbrook but were eliminated in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers, losing the series 1-4.
In fact, the Wizards have only made the playoffs once in the past seven seasons, including the current one. With a passionate fanbase desperate for a revival, many believe that a shift in ownership could be the first step toward reestablishing a winning culture in Washington.
Carmelo Anthony, with his wealth of experience both on and off the court, could bring a much-needed change. His deep understanding of the game and the intricacies of building a successful team could be exactly what the Wizards need to climb out of their current slump and establish a new era of basketball in the nation's capital.
