Manchester United defender Leny Yoro believes teammate Chido Obi has the potential to "become one of the world's best strikers".

Obi, 17, joined United after leaving Arsenal last year and made his first-team debut in February, appearing as a late substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He added to his appearance tally the following weekend, earning 20 minutes via the bench in United's 2-2 draw away at Everton, before being handed further opportunities against Fulham and Leicester City.

A source described United's swoop for the Danish youth international as a "significant coup" and club staff have high hopes that he will become a future star at Old Trafford for years to come. And in the opinion of Yoro, who is also being tipped to become a household name in M16, Obi has the capacity to enjoy a very fruitful career.

Yoro, speaking to Tipsbladet, said: "Chido is talented. He can become one of the world's best strikers in my opinion, if he continues his development.

"He scores a lot of goals and is a good boy, so I also hope that he will become one of the best."

Obi, who will not turn 18 until November, will not be adding to his appearance tally when United face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday evening after starting the Under-18s' FA Youth Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa on Monday night.

He led the young Reds' attack as they were knocked out of the competition in heartbreaking fashion, losing on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

"He has had his chance in a few games, and I of course hope that he will soon open his goal account in the first-team," Yoro added. "That will help the team."
