**West Ham** made Wolverhampton Wanderers look like Real Madrid at Molineux last night.
From the very first whistle, the Midlander’s showed the pace, technique and attacking variety the Hammers could only dream of—and if we’re being honest, we were lucky to escape with a 1-0 defeat.
Yes, West Ham improved in the second half following a formation change and five substitutions, but that only serves to underline how wrong Graham Potter got things from the start.
More concerning, though, is the growing sense that this team simply doesn’t know how to score goals.
Despite the tactical tweaks and the injection of fresh legs, Wolves were never truly troubled and looked comfortable seeing out their lead.
No doubt we’ll hear about West Ham’s missed chances—Ferguson, Emerson and [Soucek](https://www.claretandhugh.info/tomas-soucek-bio/) all had opportunities—and yes, Wolves’ goal did take a deflection. But to focus too heavily on those moments would be to ignore the most damning stat of the night: **one shot on target.**
Just one.
Wolves came into this game as the fourth-worst team in the [Premier League](https://www.claretandhugh.info/premier-league-bio/). Realistically, they’re not. Right now, **West Ham are**—and if performances like this continue, the league table will soon reflect it.
