Alexander Isak’s stunning form has seen him linked with moves away – but there are more and more indications that he’ll remain on Tyneside this summer.
Non-stop talk circulating around the Swedish superstar going to either Arsenal or Liverpool has lingered in the media over the last few months.
A report suggesting Isak has rejected a contract offer from Newcastle have been played down and our position to demand a monster fee have only been strengthened – it now seems we have priced out at least some prospective buyers.
It is “highly unlikely” that Arne Slot’s side would meet Newcastle’s £150m valuation of Alexander Isak, according to [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6244877/2025/04/01/viktor-gyokeres-arsenal-transfer-manchester-united-liverpool-chelsea-latest/?source=twitteruk) Liverpool correspondent James Pearce.
He reports that Reds aren’t in a position to target an ‘elite No.9’, with the focus on investment across their squad, perhaps heightened by the contract situations of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah.
A talismanic forward would be the crown jewel for Liverpool going forward – their midfield and wingers being their main strength this season – so it’s no surprise to see Isak is admired on Merseyside.
However, it seems he will be unaffordable in summer of 2025, especially as Liverpool recently announced a £57m pre-tax loss for 2023-24.
Arsenal this week announced the arrival of new sporting director Andrea Berta who is expected to go down a new avenue of interest that diverts from Isak and Benjamin Sesko.
The Athletic reports that Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres is favoured by Berta, who will focus on signing Isak’s countryman despite the preference of the Gunners manager.
It’s thought Gunners boss Mikel Arteta wants Isak, but there is a growing acceptance that agreeing a deal with Newcastle ‘may prove impossible.’
With Isak under contract until 2028 and PIF determined to keep our star man on Tyneside, it feels increasingly likely that he stays put this summer.
