'Complications': £41m Liverpool player admits he has found things 'difficult' at Anfield this season

This season has been a difficult one for many of Liverpool’s forward stars.

Darwin Nunez has not adapted to the style of play Arne Slot wants to use at Anfield, Luis Diaz’s numbers should be better than what they are, and Diogo Jota has once again run into injury issues.

Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, while there is also the possibility that Diaz follows him out the exit door on Merseyside as the Reds are not expected to offer the winger a new deal when his contract expires in 2027.

As a result, Liverpool are pursuing Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who is the Premier League leaders’ top target for the summer transfer window.

This will have the strikers at Anfield concerned and one star has already expressed this when opening up about how his 2024/25 campaign has played out.

Diogo Jota shares Liverpool fans’ concerns over his form

Jota was a key part of Slot’s plans at the start of the Premier League campaign with the Portuguese star impressing during pre-season games last summer before being handed the starting spot at centre-forward for Liverpool’s opening game against Ipswich Town.

Once again, injury issues have affected the 28-year-old’s season, which has led to the striker playing 28 games, in which he has produced eight goals and four assists.

Jota has returned to the starting line up of late, however, the Portugal international has not been effective, leading to criticism from Alan Shearer, amongst others.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official match programme ahead of the Everton game on Wednesday, Jota has stated that he is aware of his recent run of form.

“It has been a difficult season for me personally,” Jota said. “I’ve had a few complications throughout the season. Obviously, these last couple of months are the ones that matter most, where you decide things.

“I don’t feel I’m in my best form at the moment but certainly playing, I will get there. And I always try to do my best, no matter what.”

Liverpool have no plans to sell Jota this summer and the 28-year-old hopes to show why throughout the remainder of the season.

Diogo Jota’s plan for the rest of the season

With the Premier League title still to be won, Jota will be one of many stars who hope to contribute to Liverpool’s success throughout the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, which he has often done since completing his £41m move from Wolves in 2020.

The Portuguese star has shared that he believes that he can remain with the Merseyside club so long as he is being useful to the team, which doesn’t necessarily mean goals and assists.

“I think in the end, as long as you keep being useful to the team, that’s the most important thing,” Jota said in Liverpool’s official matchday programme for Everton.

“Sometimes not only the stats, but the way you can connect to your team-mates and the way you can help the team defensively and how you can help the team get the win. That’s what I try to do every time I’m on the pitch.

“But obviously, as a striker, I want to get involved in scoring goals, creating those chances, and every game is a new opportunity to do that.”
