Ally McCoist says £86m player would never sign for Manchester City because of Erling Haaland

Manchester City have had their fair share of transfer targets that got away.

Manchester City almost signed Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2021 before he returned to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, City almost signed Lionel Messi when he left Barcelona too.

There are plenty of other perennial targets who never ended up coming to the Etihad, Isco, Kaka and Ivan Rakitic are just a few.

Harry Kane was strongly linked with City a few years ago, and now, there’s been a suggestion that Kane could be open to a return to the Premier League.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Ally McCoist has been discussing where the £86m man could end up if he comes back to England, and the pundit says that Kane won’t come to Manchester City now because of the presence of Erling Haaland.

Ally McCoist says Harry Kane won’t sign for Man City

McCoist spoke about Kane’s options if he were to return to England.

The pundit said that he could see Kane joining Liverpool, but he thinks a move to City is unrealistic due to the fact that Erling Haaland is already at the club.

Pep Guardiola doesn’t play with two number nines, so, there isn’t much room for both Kane and Haaland to be in the same team.

“If I was Liverpool I would test the water with Harry Kane. I think Harry Kane would score a phenomenal amount of goals in the Liverpool team,” McCoist said.

“He’s not going to come to Arsenal, we get that, he won’t go to City because of Haaland. If he was going to come back to anybody, I could see him in a Liverpool jersey.”

What Harry Kane has said about Erling Haaland

McCoist says that Kane wouldn’t come to City because of Haaland, and he’s probably right.

Indeed, Kane is good enough to be the starting striker for pretty much any team in the world, so he wouldn’t want to compete for minutes with a player like Haaland.

That said, Kane is a fan of Haaland.

Kane actually named Haaland as one of his favourite strikers.

“Erling [Haaland] is a really good goalscorer, like one of the best in the world at the moment. Real machine, physically, so like, real dangerous so he’s got to be in there.”

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean these two would work well together in the same team, but if there was a way that City could get both Kane and Haaland in the same side scoring goals, it would be an absolute joy to watch.
