Robbie Savage Names The Striker With A £62.5M Buyout Clause Who Is Good Enough To "Play For City Right Now"

BBC Sport pundit Robbie Savage believes Wolves striker Matheus Cunha possesses the talent to play for Manchester City.

The Brazilian international has spoken out in recent days to say that he is considering leaving his current team at the end of the season, despite only signing a new contract earlier this year. After scoring 15 goals this campaign, Savage says Cunha is right to be ambitious and he feels he would be right at home if he made the move to the Etihad:

“If you’re him, you’d want to go and play for a club that’s going to challenge for honours… I think he could play for City right now.”

Cunha reportedly has a £62.5m release clause in his contract, and he will undoubtedly attract suitors over the coming months.

City have not been linked with the forward

A number of Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in Cunha over the course of this season. Arsenal were mentioned as a possible destination during the January transfer window, along with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

Manchester United are also thought to have kept tabs on the 25-year-old over the past year or so. City, though, are not believed to be among the frontrunners for his signature.

The signing of Marmoush makes a move for Cunha unlikely

After paying £63.2m for Omar Marmoush, it would be a surprise if the Cityzens decided to pay an almost identical fee for Cunha, who possesses many of the same traits as the Egyptian international.

Neither player would be considered an out-and-out centre-forward as they prefer to make runs into the channels and link up play between the lines. Manager Pep Guardiola may want to bring in more additions up front this summer but recruiting a winger like Sporting’s Francisco Trincao or even Southampton’s Tyler Dibling is more likely.
