West Ham make ‘great offer’ – Barcelona don’t want to compete with Hammers

West Ham United are one of the clubs in the race to sign Lille star Jonathan David in the summer window.

The striker’s contract expires in June and he’s starred this season, managing 23 goals and 10 assists from 42 games in the process. His form and contract situation makes him a market opportunity for several clubs.

Wednesday’s edition of Sport mentions West Ham when covering Barcelona’s stance on signing the 25-year-old.

Barcelona have been monitoring him for several months and David has been hoping for a direct approach from them. The Catalan club haven’t made any advances and are unlikely to do so for sporting and financial reasons. Sport claim he isn’t the right fit sporting wise.

It’ll cost over €60m in salary for four years, signing on bonuses and agent fee to sign him for free. This is another factor that ‘dampens’ his chances of joining the Blaugrana.

Barca’s stance has seen the player’s camp already start negotiations with other clubs. His entourage is exploring options in the Premier League and Serie A.

West Ham are a contender from England and Sport state the Hammers have made a ‘great offer’ to convince him to join them. Recent claims in Italy have mentioned about Inter Milan and Juventus’ interest.

The frontman should pick his next club soon and West Ham are awaiting his decision. His priority was to join Barca and their decision to drop out would come as an encouragement for the London club.
