Maresca explains why he cancelled Chelsea players’day off

**Enzo Maresca has played down the significance of cancelling a scheduled day off for senior Chelsea players.**

Head coach Maresca took the decision after they lost to the club’s Under-21 team in a training match during the international break.

“It’s nothing,” Maresca said when confirming that the day off had been scrapped.

“Since I joined the club, I have always demanded high standards. During the international break, there is no official game, there are not many players here – the day after (training) they can have off.

“Sometimes it’s normal to be a little bit relaxed, but I don’t allow this. So we decided that the day after we would train.

“It’s nothing strange, it’s nothing new. The players are training here every day with no official game, and then we played a game with us and the second team, and we took that decision.”

The Italian insisted: “Since day one, the attitude and behaviour have always been top. Every day, every game. Even in the last three or four days, the last week.

“They know how important it is from now on, every game is important.”
