Chelsea have an obligation to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window from Man Utd.

Enzo Maresca remained coy when he was quizzed on the future of Jadon Sancho. Chelsea signed the forward on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer with an obligation to buy him at the end of the campaign.

Chelsea will have to pay between £20 million and £25 million to sign Sancho permanently this summer, or they can choose to pay a £5 million penalty to opt out of the purchase. It is still unclear what the Blues will choose to do, though United are expected to sell Sancho this summer regardless of whether he moves to Stamford Bridge.

Sancho grabbed assists in his first three Premier League appearances for the London club but has since fallen down the pecking order and has only started 16 times in the league this season. Chelsea will soon have to make a final decision on the 25-year-old but Maresca did not give anything away on what that might be.

Enzo Maresca sets Jadon Sancho challenge

Jadon Sancho will hope to start when Chelsea face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Thursday night and ahead of the match, Enzo Maresca was quizzed on his long-term future at the club and challenged the forward to add more goal contributions to his game.

“All the players that are with us, I love all of them. But at this moment, it (the priority) is to finish (the season) well and I am completely focused on that," he said. “All the ones I have here, I want them to want to be here. What happens in the summer, we will see.”

When further pushed for a specific update on Sancho, the Chelsea boss added: “His situation does not change – it is exactly the same. He can do better in terms of numbers, no doubt, but it is not only Jadon. He needs to continue to give his best. That is what we want from Jadon.”

Sancho has two goals and seven assists since he joined Chelsea on loan last summer. He has only managed 12 goals and six assists since he joined United for £73 million four years ago.
