One of Newcastle United’s key players is one yellow card away from a two-match ban.
Newcastle United remain without Anthony Gordon for tonight’s Premier League clash against Brentford at St James’ Park.
Gordon serves the final game of his three-match ban for the red card he picked up in the Magpies’ FA Cup fifth round defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. He has already missed the 1-0 win at West Ham in the league and the 2-1 Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool.

The 24-year-old picked a knock whilst playing for England last month but is expected to return as planned for the visit to Leicester City on Monday night. United will hope Gordon’s return isn’t followed by the loss of another player.
Joelinton walking disciplinary tightrope
That is because Joelinton is just one yellow card away from serving a two-match Premier League ban. As per Premier League rules, any player cautioned 10 times in their side’s opening 32 matches is automatically handed a two-game suspension.
The Brazilian currently sits on nine yellow cards and will have to stay out the referee’s book for the next four matches against Brentford, Leicester City, Manchester United and Crystal Palace to avoid such punishment. A booking versus Brentford this evening would force him to sit out against Leicester and Man United.
The 28-year-old has only recently returned from four weeks out with a knee issue, featuring against Brighton, West Ham and Liverpool, as well as playing twice for Brazil against Colombia and Argentina during the international break.

Joelinton served a one-match ban earlier in the season for reaching five yellow cards. When asked about the threat of losing him to suspension, Howe said: Yeah, unfortunately for Joey, he's a very competitive player. He's always on the line, I'd say, in terms of that side, but you need players like that in your squad.
“We'd be desperately disappointed after losing him to injury, to lose him for two games, but hopefully he can control himself like the last time he was on the precipice of a ban. I think he went a number of games without getting booked, so fingers crossed he can do the same.”
