In what has turned out to be a wild college career, Ohio State transfer Meechie Johnson Jr. is returning to South Carolina.
Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior from Cleveland, Ohio, has a sixth college season and will return to South Carolina, where he played two seasons before transferring to his home-state Buckeyes. The move marks the third time in six years that the shooting guard has bounced between the two programs.
Johnson started his college career at Ohio State, where he played the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. He then transferred to South Carolina for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons before transferring back to Ohio State for the 2024-25 season.
Johnson is now on the move again --- back to South Carolina.

Johnson was originally a member of the 2021 high school recruiting class.
In November of his senior year, Johnson chose to reclassify to the 2020 class and enrolled at Ohio State in December of the 2020-21 season. He was a 247Sports four-star prospect and ranked No. 100 overall in thre 2020 class.
This started Johnson's volley between Columbus and Columbia.
Johnson appeared in 10 games this season at Ohio State, averaging 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. However, the 2023-2024 season proved to be Johnson best statistical year. He averaged 14.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in South Carolina's system during that season. This resulted in a 26-8 record for the Gamecocks and a trip to the NCAA tournament. Now, Johnson and the Gamecocks are trying to recapture that magic with his return to South Carolina.
