Arsenal continued their push in the Premier League title race with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. The win marks back-to-back league triumphs for the Gunners, coming either side of the international break, following their narrow 1-0 success against Chelsea over two weeks ago.
The result sees Arsenal reduce the gap to league leaders Liverpool from 15 points to nine, keeping their hopes of a remarkable title comeback alive. However, Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, who have played one game fewer, will have the opportunity to extend their lead when they face Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Wednesday night. With eight matches remaining in the season, Mikel Arteta’s men will need a near-perfect run to mount a serious challenge for the title.
Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino opened the scoring for Arsenal, setting the tone for a dominant performance. The Gunners then welcomed back Bukayo Saka, who made a return from injury in the second half and added a crucial second goal. His effort ultimately proved decisive, as Fulham netted a late consolation in the 94th minute, setting up a nervy finish for the home side.

Speaking after the game, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice expressed his delight at Saka’s return while also praising Gabriel Martinelli’s impact on the game.

“The reception [for Saka] speaks for itself. That’s why he’s one of the best wingers in the world—he attacks the box and sniffs out chances. He was in the right place at the right time, and his goal topped off a great night for him and for us,” Rice said.

He also commended Martinelli’s influence, adding, “Martinelli was unbelievable tonight—a real outlet for us. He played a big role in Bukayo’s goal. Having Bukayo back is a real boost.”
Declan Rice acknowledged Arsenal’s challenges in breaking down defensive setups at the Emirates, saying, “Most teams play with a back five here now, so it’s up to us to break them down. It was comfortable for most of the match, but in the last 10-15 minutes, we were a bit naive, and they could have scored two or three.”
With the title race still open, Arsenal will need to maintain their momentum in the final stretch of the season as they continue to chase down Liverpool at the top of the table.
