Arsenal reduced Liverpool’s advantage at the top of the Premier League to nine points with a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Tuesday night.
Mikel Merino’s seventh goal of the season put the Gunners in front at the Emirates, before Bukayo Saka marked his first appearance of 2025 with a goal to double the hosts’ advantage.
Mikel Arteta’s side survived a late scare when Rodrigo Muniz pulled one back for the Cottagers, but the win moves Arsenal to within nine points of runaway leaders Liverpool.
Arsenal signed midfielder Merino from Spanish side Real Sociedad lasts summer, but the Spaniard has been used as a makeshift striker by Arteta in recent weeks.
Both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have been ruled out for the remainder of the season, but Merino has impressed in his new role.
Despite this, it appears that Arsenal are set to be on the lookout for a new forward when the transfer window reopens this summer.
According to Football Insider, the North London outfit are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of Wolves star Matheus Cunha this summer.
Cunha is expected to leave Wolves this summer
Cunha, 25, signed a contract extension until 2029 earlier this year but is expected to leave Molineux when the window reopens this summer.
The Brazil international has a £62.5 million release clause in his new deal, and the report claims that both Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing the star this summer.
It is claimed that the Gunners had started to explore a move for Cunha during the reign of former sporting director Edu Gaspar, and the North London side remain interested despite his subsequent departure.
Cunha joined Wolves from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2023 and has since scored 31 goals in 85 games for the Midlands side across all competitions.
Andrea Berta, Arsenal’s new sporting director, previously worked at Atletico and helped sign the Brazilian in 2021.
