Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has opened up on the bizarre matchday ritual he has sworn by ever since he arrived in England eight years ago.

Ederson joined City from Benfica in 2017 and has become a key player in an era of dominance for Pep Guardiola's men.

But is there a secret behind his success?

Well, the Brazilian shot-stopper has now revealed the one thing he never changes for a game - his underwear!

Speaking to former City goalkeeper Shay Given for Football Focus, Ederson said: 'I have only one superstition. Play every game in the same boxer shorts.'

Given appeared a little taken aback as he asked: 'What, the same boxer shorts for the whole season?'

Shay Given was stunned by Ederson's revelation, joking his boxers can't be in 'good shape'

The ritual seems to work for Ederson who has won six league titles and the Champions League at City

'No, eight years the same boxers,' Ederson corrected him.

'No way,' Given replied. He added: 'They must be... not in good shape!' as he shared a laugh with Ederson.

It may be an unusual superstition, but it seems to have worked for Ederson.

In his eight years at City, he has won six Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and the Champions League.

City have struggled in the league this season, but are still in the running for silverware after reaching the FA Cup semi-finals.

They will also compete in the newly-expanded Club World Cup this summer.
