Kevin De Bruyne’s future at Man City is completely up in the air, with no signs of a firm decision being close whatsoever.
In the summer, Kevin De Bruyne would’ve been a Manchester City player for 10 years. He’s the club’s longest-serving player and arguably their greatest player of the modern era, but this season has perhaps been his worst to date.
Now 33 years old, the Belgian has just two goals and six assists in 20 Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side who are slumped in 5th place of the Premier League table, playing for just an FA Cup.
There’s been a lot of debate about City’s players being too old now, with De Bruyne at the heart of the debate. Gary Lineker has even suggested De Bruyne’s too old now, with fans having been critical of the City talisman throughout.
Bernardo Silva denies that Man City’s players are too old but the signs are there: Man City need a squad overhaul this summer and it looks like Pep is about to oversee one, and a brutal one at that.

Nedum Onuoha verdict on whether Man City should keep Kevin De Bruyne
Former Man City defender Nedum Onuoha has been speaking on ESPN FC about De Bruyne’s situation at the Etihad. And Onuoha has revealed that, whenever he’s actually spoken to De Bruyne, he comes across as being very laid-back, and he expects the midfielder to be laid-back about his future in Manchester.

Onuoha said: “I would like him to stay. I know his football hasn’t been anyway near the best to his level this season. But then again, this is somebody who, from when I speak to him, he’s just quite chilled out. He knows he’ll be underperforming, but he’ll know he can still have an impact.
“Whether or not it’s ging to be on a week-to-week basis starting every single week, I’m not sure, but if he wants to stay then I’d try to get him to stay.”
In 10 years at Man City, De Bruyne has made 413 appearances with 106 goals and an incredible 174 assists, with six Premier League titles to his name and one Champions League too.
Kevin De Bruyne’s latest stance on Man City future
There seems to have been a bit of back forth in terms of reports stating that De Bruyne wants to leave the club one minute, amid interest from the MLS and elsewhere, and then that he actually wants to stay at the club.
The latest on the matter came out just a week ago with reports that De Bruyne is open to staying at Man City beyond the end of his contract this summer, though Pep has often painted an uncertain picture on whether or not he stays.
It looks like it might be down to the club and De Bruyne. De Bruyne remains the highest-earner at the club but his performances aren’t warranting what is largely thought to be a £300,000-a-week salary, so a pay cut may definitely be needed for him to stay.
